Wykoff Commons offers to Kingsland the West Commons - “the new gym” - for a price of 3,900,000
+K This gives Kingsland the facility it desires according to its needs lists
+ K This gives Kingsland everything for 1/3 the cost of building new, or 1/2 the cost if factor in renovations and busing
+ W This money would circle back via improvements in Wykoff Commons
+ K …Which would circle back again by providing Kingsland and both communities much improved and expanded facilities
including performance, sports, events, work-out, classrooms, and dining facilities.
It is sold unrenovated.
+ K This gives Kingsland complete control over the renovations, including cost
This becomes not a separate school, but a campus. It would offer Kingsland multiple and varied options for class offerings and scheduling. A possible name would be “Kingsland | Wykoff. In addition to the West Commons, it has the possibility of adding, in essence, all of the Wykoff Commons facilities to the Kingsland offerings without purchasing or building additional buildings.
Could add up to 10 additional classrooms. This would build in flex-classroom space to absorb class size changes avoiding build/demolish facility cycles. Rather, one could simply lease additional space as needed.
Would allow for fast adaptation for a rapidly changing world. One could set up a classroom for an immediate need in days, not years.
This would greatly reduce construction interference with classes.
This plan reduces the proposed property tax increases by roughly half. It makes for wise use of already-existing community resources. By recycling what is reusable, an earth-friendly and hands-out-of-my-pocketbook policies are realized.
Working together, - Kingsland and Wykoff Commons (and St John’s) - greatly expands the sports venues of Kingsland. A two-court gym, a one-court gym, and possibly two baseball fields are added to the venue line-up. The gyms can be configured to be used for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, etc. The two-court gym has retractable stadium seating allowing for competitive games with audiences.
Could act as an incentive to draw disenfranchised Wykoff students back to Kingsland.
Allows for sharing the economic benefits of a school.
Makes good on the promise (real or not) that Kingsland would always have a school in Wykoff.
