To keep Wykoff Commons Fitness and Recreation in Wykoff Commons, it will need to be moved. A great option is the Industrial Arts Room. It’s tall ceiling makes for a dramatic space. This space would allow for the work-out offerings to expand. One could have group workouts along with various mat routines.

This new location is next to the Kingsland | Wykoff Gym, close to the locker rooms, and right across the hall from the daycare for those trying to work a workout between baby feedings.

Located next to the adult fitness center, is a space designed for those too old for daycare and too young for the adult fitness. It is both a fitness room and a play room. It is intended for the purpose of teaching a healthy lifestyle - good life habits, practices - to the children at a young age, and how to have fun doing so.

There is a large glass window between this room and the adult fitness room so parents can keep an eye on things.

An on-site daycare already built out conforming to current state regulations. It has both interior and exterior entances and its own in-care secure restrooms. What it has that sets it apart from your every day run-of-the-mill daycare is it comes with acess to a full size gym - great for getting the Michael Jordons among us off to the earliest start possible. Currently looking for one to head it up.

This buildng is historic in the way and time it was built. It is probaly remembered more by what took place inside. There are Wykoff families with 5 generations having played in this gym. In a small town with a small school the gym was the central gathering spot for not only the school, but for the town. on game nights, here was the place to be and to be seen.

While the varsity basketball games are no longer played here, it is used for just about everyth ing else. There are volleyball tournaments, pickle ball games, class reunions, mystery dinners, etc. It is a great community asset.

Used in conjunction with the other gym and school cafeteria, it makes for a large market or show. Used in conjuntion with Kingsland, it has even more possibilities

The building, with its castle motif, is itself theatrical. The entry ticket booth is classic. The entrance stairs centered on the hall below adds a sense of formality. The raised stage is framed by old stone. The stage curtain, which was auctioned off, has been replaced. There is set storage on the side wings. There is room below for green rooms.

For a space that is primarily a gym, it makes for a rather impressive theatre venue

Grant money has been awarded for a new kitchen (everything was taken including the kitchen sink). This opens all kinds of creative possibilities both for the school and the town

Most people don’t know it (it was not widely p[ublicized locally), but the elementary addition, including the cafeteria, was awarded the 25 year award in architecture by the Minnesota American Institute of Architects. The library addition covering up the window wall was an unfortunate “addition”. Would be great to someday unaddition it

With a new kitchen, the cafe can be opened for business. It can operate as anything from a town restaurant to a student lunch room or as a unique combination. The Gateway Cafe could operate out of Wykoff Commons for lunch - serving both students and people looking for a great lunch. Towns people could join students. Grandparents could spend a half-hour with their grandkids. Groups could meet over lunch using the community room or jiust taking a table in the cafe.

Having another kitchen and dining room adds flexibility to Kingsland scheduling. It doesn’t have to have all students back to Spring Valley for breakfast or lunch.
